Happy Easter Eggs

Happy Easter everyone. To celebrate the beginning of Spring and the wonderful experience of new life and re-birth, I have created some mellow yet charming Easter egg soaps. Using a blend of melt and pour soap base and invigoration fragrances, I present to you this eggscellent collection of pastel soaps.

These little beauties are perfectly shaped to hold in your hand when creating that fresh soapy lather. The shea butter is moisturising for the skin and the oatmeal is exfoliating.

My original plan was to play with the melt & pour to create interesting Easter egg patterns, but after much frustration with pipettes and little patience I decided that simple is better. As you can see below, they would have turned out amazing if had done the process in one go. Unfortunately, I had to leave them over night and add the filling the next day. They did not stick and I got frustrated. That is where the idea for simplicity kicked in.

Ingredients and equipment:

• Melt&Pour soap base, 1kg Shea and Oatmeal from Stephenson’s (250g for each colour)
• 2-4 drops Bee Beautiful red, blue, green and yellow soap colours
• 5ml Chamomile Fragrance Oil
• 5ml Peppermint Essential Oil
• 5ml Orange Essential Oil
• 5ml Rose Fragrance Oil
• Silicone Mould
• Heat Proof Bowl
• Rubbing alcohol spritz bottle

Method:

1. Cut the Melt & Pour soap base into cubes. Measure 250g for each colour. This created 6 egg shapes.
2. Microwave in a heat proof bowl on high for 10 second bursts until the soap base has become a liquid. WARNING: it will be hot.
3. Add a few drops of one colour to give the finishing pastel shade. Add more for a more vibrant colour if wanted.
4. Mix thoroughly to incorporate all the soap base. I used a wooden spatula but a spoon or stick will work just as well.
5. Add 5ml of the fragrance and stir again. Keep in mind that peppermint can be overpowering, I will explain later.
6. Pour into the moulds and spray with rubbing alcohol to get rid of any bubbles. As shown below.
7. Leave to set for at least 6 hours and then remove from mould and enjoy!

 

 

 

 

 

 

The final product not only smelt amazing and mellow but also looked cute and lathered up beautifully under warm water.

Now for the reality: all I can say is be careful when adding the peppermint essential oil, it’s really powerful. I added the 5ml as mentioned before and coming home after work the next day the whole place smelt like peppermint. I mean it could smell worse, I do have two cats! Did you notice the cat hair stuck to the soap? Haha, I can’t do anything at home without cat hair being attached.
